Ciabatta
It seems like it's been around forever, but in actual fact Ciabatta was first produced in 1982. There are regional variations of it, but it's origins are in Verona in northern Italy's Veneto region where it was produced in response to the growing popularity of sandwiches being made from inported french baguettes which threatened the livliehoods of Italain bakers.
Produced by Fransesco Favaron a baker in Verona, he called it Ciabatta as the shape of the bread reminded him of his wife's slipper (ciabatta)
It made from wheat flour, water, salt, and yeast.
